HUGS (Help, Understanding
& Group Support)
Since 1982, HUGS supports Hawaii families statewide with a child up to age 21 who has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or disease.
Our mission is to strengthen Hawaii’s families and improve their quality of life as they face the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child.
Double Your Impact This Year-end
Consider giving a gift to HUGS this year-end to support Hawaii's Seriously Ill Children and Their Families. From now through December 31, 2024, the Edwin T. & Eleanor L. Meyer Charitable Trust will match total donations up to $25,000! Your donation will have double the impact in making a difference in the lives of our HUGS families.
HUGS for Hawaii’s Seriously Ill Children and Their Families
Our nonprofit organization provides comprehensive, long-term support to each member of the family, to ensure they don’t have to face their challenges alone.
HUGS offers programs to alleviate the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child, while providing opportunities to families to come together in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Volunteer with HUGS
Our volunteers ate the heartbeat of HUGS. The dedication of volunteers enables HUGS to continue serving Hawaii’s seriously ill children and their families. Become a part of the HUGS team and share your expertise, passion and heart with us.

Our programs and services are available to families without charge because of our generous donors. When you donate to HUGS, you’re ensuring our HUGS Families are not alone as they face the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child.

“I have cried many tears since my son’s diagnosis and I felt alone and stressed without knowing how I can better help him. HUGS have been more than a resource. Being able to see and talk with others in similar situations help me thrive… You go above and beyond and you are heaven sent! I am so thankful for you and all you do for my family and I. You help the tears seem less salty..”
