Volunteer with HUGS

The children and families are at the heart of HUGS, but our volunteers are the heartbeat. The dedication of volunteers enables HUGS to continue serving Hawaii’s seriously ill children and their families. HUGS is always in need of committed and caring volunteers to assist with our family programs such as respite care and hospital visitations, and with office support. Become a part of the HUGS team and share your expertise, passion and heart with us.

HUGS House Support

Providing TLC for our yard including lawn maintenance, sanitizing the sand box, creating greeting cards for our HUGS families, gift wrapping Christmas presents, organizing our food pantry.

Volunteer opportunities include:

Family Programs

Respite Childcare, Family Dinners, and SibCamp – Interact with and provide care and support to HUGS children and their families.

Special Events

Assist at specially planned community outreach and fundraising events. Individuals with experience in registration, photography, decorations and silent auction set-up are highly sought.  TLC help for our Memorial Garden at Sunset Ranch.

Adult Volunteer (18 years and older)

  • Provide medical documentation of TB clearance (negative PPD), MMR and Varicella immunizations.

Junior Volunteer (15 through 17 years old)

  • Parental Consent for the Emergency Treatment of a Minor Download Form

  • Junior Volunteer Applicant Confidential Questionnaire Download Form

  • Provide medical documentation of TB clearance (negative PPD), MMR and Varicella immunizations.

Once the forms and documents have been received and reviewed, our HUGS Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to attend a brief orientation and training session. You may also call us at 808-380-6930 or email us at volunteer@hugshawaii.org to follow up with your application. After you have completed the training, you'll be ready to sign up for a variety of volunteer opportunities.
