Tanaka Family
The Tanakas have three children and are avid beachgoers and live an active lifestyle. “It hit us hard at our 20-week ultrasound when we found out that our unborn child had a severe heart defect called tricuspid atresia, which basically means that Anchor was born with half of a heart,” said mom. Anchor was also neutropenic (lack of white blood cells) to fight off infection.
Anchor underwent the Glenn Procedure open heart surgery and got a severe infection from the surgery. “The four years of life for Anchor and our ‘ohana have been extremely stressful. We often think about how strong Anchor is, but we also recognize the strength of his older siblings Kili and Aukai, who have bravely carried themselves through the traumatic journey of their baby brother.”
Anchor got his most recent open-heart surgery, and thankfully, the surgery was a success!
“We want to express our gratitude and appreciation for all that HUGS has supported us with over the years. Whether it was flights to/from California for treatments, a simple call to check in on us, or a birthday wish, we knew we could count on HUGS for genuine love and care which was expressed to each member of our family.”
