Leong Family
The Leongs have three kids. In 2019, Kaydee was found to have a tumor in her proximal fibula, after experiencing pain and swelling in her leg. Her doctor diagnosed her with metastatic osteosarcoma, and further scans revealed additional tumors in her distal tibia and right lung.
Kaydee started chemotherapy and after six rounds the tumor in her right lung was removed. However the tumor in her leg was not affected. Limb salvage surgery was not feasible, so the decision was made to amputate her right leg above her knee to remove the tumor completely and keep it from spreading.
The family remained positive through this whole ordeal. Kaydee asked the surgeon if removing her leg "This means I will live, right?" After getting confirmation she understood losing her leg was a small price to pay for beating cancer.
"HUGS was there from day 1, offering all sorts of support and help. They always focused on our whole family, which helped us stay strong and positive throughout our journey. We would love to help other families who are also going through similar situations, especially if there is a child who needs an amputation. Kaydee would love to share her story and advice when it comes to dealing with an amputation and using a prosthesis." The Leong Ohana would also like to share that they've found that laughter is good medicine, and that making jokes makes the hard days a lot better.
